I agree with Sami that most are not at all comfortable...ours in is my daughter's bedroom...an extra large room that used to be two...did not want to give up the extra sleeping space when we combined the rooms so ours really needed to be comfortable for sleeping as well as sitting. For sitting the fix was to put it up against a wall and use a couple of plump very supportive pillows (one is actually the back cushion rescued from an old love seat) and then all of the fun decorative ones. For sleeping I would have liked to have used a regular mattress but since it is an antique that would have required a custom size...quite expensive. The easy fix was a very firm stock futon mattress...perfect size. The futon mattress also keeps the less structured antique look. While I would not want to sleep on it nightly, it's great for sitting, napping and even up to 3 or 4 nights in a row. Hope this gives some ideas to your readers about how to make their daybeds comfy. I did struggle getting ours just right so after the holidays maybe I will do a post and go layer by layer with photos to show the solutions that worked for us because the bedding is a bit tricky too if you can't or don't want to go custom with it...right now I am considering making slip covers for the upholstered ends like you show above. Sorry to ramble on, but when you really love a look there are ways to have your bed and sleep in it too!French-Kissedhttp://www.french-kissed.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-673962965526409194.post-53845307534268275192011-11-29T15:52:36.725-08:002011-11-29T15:52:36.725-08:00Yes. The mattress and pillows were covered in a pomegranate colored watered silk. It was beautiful and miserable. Miserable to sit on and impossible to really get comfortable for a nap. I didn't read any other comments because I was afraid if I did I wouldn't be willing to tell the truth. I miss it as a decorative element but not as a utilitarian unit.

Sami (hoping not to have offended any daybed lover)Sami Pathttp://pontysporch.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-673962965526409194.post-31700866668281953122011-11-29T06:14:11.678-08:002011-11-29T06:14:11.678-08:00I'm with you, it is one of the most versitile ...I'm with you, it is one of the most versitile and beautiful pieces of furniture, yet I don't have one either!
