They're back!

Pileated Woodpecker, 16-19 inches tall

While I know this has nothing to do with decorating it does have something to do with spring around our home that has made me very excited…our colorful birds have returned! This gives me great hope that spring is here. After Saturdays snow today’s high of 72 degrees comes as both a shock and a welcome surprise although it’s going cold again tomorrow.

Red-Breasted Grosbeak

I looked over to our bird feeders and this guy is the first of his kind to arrive. I know it’s a guy because the females are a dull spotted, striped brown. In the bird world it’s always the males who are colorful.

Male and female Cardinals

There’s a whole lot of Amour going on around here!

Robin

After that amour they're going to need a few nests for the little ones.

Golden American Finch

The only female in that crowd is the dull looking one at the top in the row of three. Definitely not like the human world where females out number the males but the end result is still the same......;)

male Bluebird

Just like a man to get the munchies afterwards but soon we'll have the babies visiting our feeders.

Dylan

But the best part of the warmer days, a tired puppy after spending the day outside!

May you know such peace!

Hello:
We can so identify with this.

One's heart really does skip a beat when the summer visitors of the bird world arrive again. This must for you, we feel, be particularly the case this year as the winter seems to have lingered on.

What joyful images you post here!

Thank you for sharing such delightful Spring photos of the beautiful Birds that are visiting your Gardens. Though I love decorating, the diversity of Blog Posts I find most appealing, it shows more about the lives and passions of the Bloggers and shares so much more of their lives and part of the World... so bring on all the eclectic Posts you wish to share... we enjoy it ALL!!!

OMG 72 degrees, the poor daffs, thank goodness the cold is returning :-)

great images, are those all at your property, lucky you!

a great tip for helping those tired nest builders; take the lint from the dryer and place on shrubs nearby nesting, those new babies will adore you

We have had many colorful visitors lately as well. I don't believe I've seen a grosbeak but I've been seeing all the others. The finches always astound me with their bright highlighter yellow color. Love that shot of Dylan- tired puppy indeed!!

* What a lovely posting~~~ such a NICE WAY to start the day! THANK YOU!!!

Isn't this a beautiful time of year, tho?!?!?! I love it when we have the return of "our" CARDINALS... they stand out SO MUCH against the often-bare desert, that I get excited (actually mesmorized!) by their beautiful reds!!

Our DAWG ALSO gets very excited when "winter" comes to the desert ... that's when she gets to start going on "huntin' trips" with her "Daddy" & HIS friends and THEIR dawgs!

Ahhhh, life is soooo beautiful and we are all so blessed!

Enjoy a beautiful day!

Warmest,

Yes, I'm sure after a long cold winter, spring is a very welcomed time. Our winter only lasts for about 4-6 weeks in our part of Australia so it's quite nice. No snow though. I'm looking forward to a white Christmas in your wonderful country someday.

Debra to answer your questions, I don't dust at all. I'm allergic to dust mites so my hubby has to do all the dusting *winks* And I only have the birds in two rooms, my husbands office and the livingroom. Both areas can be closed off from the rest of the house. I don't have any problems with my dogs at all with regard to the taxidermy, but my cat Jordan LOVES to climb to the top of the armoire and peer down on everything. So far the few times he's managed to sneak in there he hasn't bothered anything....Yet. *winks* Vanna

"Tirili - Tirila - trill-trill- CHIRP-CHIRP-CHIRP"!!
Hurray! Want be long and snow will gone! The birds know......!

Love to send you an old German bird song written by Hoffmann von Fallersleben in 1835, the melody goes back to the 15th Century:

"Alle Voeglein sind schon da"
- All birds are here -

Alle Voegel sind schon da, alle Voegel, alle.
Welch ein Singen, Musizieren, Pfeifen, Zwitschern, Tirilieren!
Fruehling will nun einmarschieren,
kommt mit Sang und Schalle.

Wie sie alle lustig sind,
flink und froh sich regen!
Amsel, Drossel, Fink und Star
und die ganze Vogelschar
Wuenschen Dir ein frohes Jahr,
lauter Heil und Segen.

Was sie uns verkuenden nun,
nehmen wir zu Herzen:
Wir auch wollen lustig sein,
lustig wie die Voegelein,
hier und dort, feldaus, feldein,
singen, springen, scherzen!

I'm sure Dear Debra, that you'll understand a few words or get the sense of it. And maybe some of your readers will understand as well. It would be a too long comment to translate the poem/song into English. It is one of my favorite spring songs!

Have a lovely and cheerful weekend, together with your beautiful birds and Dylan who looks rather bored (or tired?) about all the birds!
Lovely, lovely post!!!!!

I share your love of birdies! I tell people that they are my only pets- they feel like mine...they visit everyday and sing for me :) I saw a cardinal feeding it's mate like in your picture and so I looked it up. I guess that is what they do- part of the mating ritual...isn't that the sweetest!
