Life is really Good!

Do you have any idea how sweet all of you are? I miss posting once on Sunday and I started to receive all kinds of emails to see if I was all right. Yep, better then all right just got a little busy with the great outdoors. Seems like we were hit with spring and summer all at once and around our home that means plenty of outside work to be done.

That is unless you’re this character who prefers to roll around in dirt and hang out in the shade. No I don’t worry about the dirt because as soon as Dylan dries off it all falls out of his hair hopefully outside. Besides he’s a dog, he likes being in dirt!

Last weekend was one of those fifty center days, that’s the best kind of day in New England that you don’t pass on by staying inside.

I kept telling Debra over at 5th and State that I would send her pictures of our property and I got to thinking maybe you guys might like to see as well. You see all that grass it all gets mowed by yours truly! Saturday was absolutely gorgeous out and I did it all in one day and ended up a little crispy but it was so worth it to be back outside in shorts with the feel of the sun on my face.

With every turn of the tractor the scent of wild honeysuckle was in the air!

We’re fortunate enough to have wild honeysuckle in both pink and white and it’s everywhere on our property welcoming in the hummingbirds with its sweet scent.

To mow this entire place it takes anywhere from 6 – 10 hours depending on how fast you’re going. Funny but the pace always picks up the longer you’ve been at it.

Since our property is big and can be overwhelming I break the yard up into what I call rooms rather then trying to do the whole thing at once.

This place has to be mowed almost twice a week and I can run out and hop on our tractor for an hour and get at least two “rooms” mowed. Believe it or not it’s very relaxing it's a chance to clear your head.

Out yonder is my garden room I’m working on, it’s a work in progress!

Most of our property is forested and extremely hilly. Sorry our house looks crooked in most of the pictures must have been the way I was sitting on the tractor, trust me our home sits straight.

After mowing several acres at the end of the day there’s nothing I would rather be doing then what this guy is doing, enjoying a nap in the shade, time to get our hammock up!

So there’s part of our property and I hope you’ll understand during the summer if I don’t always have time to post life is extra busy around here. But never fear I’ll always be about leaving comments!

I hope you all have a really wonderful Memorial Day weekend and be safe!

I am sure that is is relaxing out there is the sun with the humming birds and the bees buzzing around, the beauful scent of the honeysuckle and all of the beautiful property.

Your pup is so cute! I agree, I feel like I could lay down next to him too!

Your home looks wonderful! The grass is lush, you have a long haired dog and I'm wondering if you get ticks there? My in-laws live in Missouri and the ticks were awful. I know we have them in the UK but I have never seen one here.

Hi Debra - What a happy Dylan! He has perfected the art of relaxation. Wasn't it great to have such good weather this weekend? We deserve it after all the rain. Your property is beautiful--so lush with all that green. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend,

Kindred sister, I too live on a large parcel of land that requires much mowing, and gardens to be tended; but that is all part of the luxury that we enjoy! I do not have wild honesuckle (lucky you!), but you are so right when you say that the fragrance of your surroundings adds to the delight of tending to our spaces. Love to see your Dylan, our "Cally" is a yellow lab and enjoys the river and creeks that run through...Thank you for sharing your home today:) B

oh the property and the lawn look incredible! and sleeping Dylan! my heart skipped a beat.

what a woman you are on your tractor. i think i might be fortunate all 3 men around here like to ride our 1.5 acres to mow, but i know exactly what you mean about clearing your head. that's how i feel when i pull weeds.

smiles and hugs to you.

YES!!!!
finally and it is so lovely girlfriend, just as i had imagined, no make it better!
love an all white farmhouse, that land, stone walls and your darling dylan dog. bonus points; you get to live in new england..sigh........
how many acres or is that a horrible question? once asked an elderly friend when we went to her ranch in new mexico, how many acres (she owned a few mountains too) and she eyed me suspiciously saying "why my dear, if i tell you that it would be like telling you how much money i had in the bank!" well, i was subdued, but here i go asking again.
mr. 5th also loves climbing on the mower and claims "it relaxes me....." for me it takes a comfy chair and a cocktail

Wow!! Oh this is so great, now I can happily picture you there--well, up on your mower but you know what I mean! ;) Your home is so gorgeous too--that porch! I love all of it and know how much work it is to keep up--not that I have the least bit of that to do these days but having grown up on horse farms in Ohio, I do remember! And DD is just so funny. Pure Golden, that one.

Gros bisous!
PS. I disactivated my word verification and so far, no spam--something to think about!
PPS. If you want me to talk you through how to reframe your photos in Photoshop (if you have it) so they are straight just drop me a line and will do.

Your property is beautiful Debra, but what a ton of work to keep it looking that way. Dylan is the best garden ornament ever.

Debra, your property is breathtaking and I woke up feeling a little anxious and pent up over the crazy busy day I have ahead of me but instantly feel like I have decompressed looking at your post, it was like a natural sedative, lol. Soooo peaceful, I can hear the birds chirping, no one around for miles...what a wonderful life!
And then Dylan, who you are right looks so much like little Teddy and they both go through life with that same laid back "life is about relaxtaion" mindset...gotta love it. Too cute for words!!!
Enjoy your day, your mowing and don't work too hard!

Debra,

Dylan is so darn cute :) Don't you wish we could all roll around in the dirt and sleep all day?

Your property is stunning and how fortunate you are to have wild honeysuckle growing!! As we tackle our property (not nearly as large of a space!) I can imagine the workout you must be getting!

Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your week.

Your garden is wonderful. All that space and so green. My boys would kill for a lawn area that big! I visited New England about 15 years ago and always remember it to be such a beautiful part of the world. You are blessed! x Sharon

While all Sally and I have is one "room" to mow, I love getting out there. There's something about the hum and vibration of the lawn mower that is relaxing to me. When the job is done, I feel tired, yet refreshed... (Maybe it takes me back to the days of mowing hay when as a kid I worked on my neighbor's farm. They were wonderful times...)

I keep telling Sally that some day, I want to own 40 acres with a house in the middle. ( and maybe a trout stream running though it.) Baring that, I will be more than satisfied to enjoy reading/seeing your tales/stories and pictures.

Cheers,
John

Debra, your land is absolutely dreamy. I can smell the honeysuckle from here. And all that verdant green, it's gorgeous but I can see that it would be a lot of work. Clearly it's good to be Dylan dog! He's got quite the life. Enjoy the weekend. Hope there is sun and a little hammock time for you! XOXO

Debra,
What an incredibly verdant, spacious property! I'm so happy to see your outdoor "rooms"!

Your description of mowing reminded me of my grandfather, a physician, but a man who loved nothing more than getting on his riding lawnmower to take care of his yard....their home was set in the midst of a orange and grapefruit grove. I didn't appreciate it as a child as much as I do today!

Glad all is well in your world!

Debra, your property is beautiful. I know I've mentioned it before but every spring and summer I get so homesick for New England and Upstate NY and all the lush green beauty. I often think of moving back because no other area has the charm of that area. I know exactly what you mean about mowing the lawn. Your remarks reminded me of my dad because he always said it cleared his head too. I can almost smell your fresh cut grass and honeysuckle right through the computer screen. Dylan looks absolutely wonderful and content. All dogs should be able to roll in the dirt, it's one of the best privileges of being a dog!
Get your hammock out and take a nap. Thanks for sharing the beauty of your property. XS

Hi Debra!
Are you sure you weren't talking about the mocha frappaccinos???

How can a tall cafe mocha have 600 calories? Its one cup of 2% milk (120 calories), 3 pumps of chocolate syrup (50 calories), one shot of espresso (0 calories) and if I get whip I only get a little (30-50 calories).

Would love to hear your thoughts!
Have a great weekend!

So glad I got to see this! It is truly beautiful! I can't say that I would mow that much grass myself but it's only because I would probably kill myself on a tractor!
